Mary Queen of Angels is beloved of both Christians and non-Christians alike. As mother of Jesus Christ she embodies qualities of maternal love, and gentleness – which she extends to all those who seek it. Additionally she is the soul of compassion who brings comfort to those suffering and lost – physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. The Mary Queen of Angels Oracle offers a conduit to her guidance, comfort, and protection.

This gorgeous non-denominational deck offers 44 cards of spiritual guidance. Being an oracle deck it has neither Arcana or suits, the cards are not numbered, nor do they follow any particular order. Each card has a title at the top, as well as a relevant affirmation beneath the main image. The advice offered by the cards is unfailingly positive and gentle: "Joy – By enjoying this moment, I am giving thanks to God for my life; Grace – I am filled with the same beauty, poise, and Divine perfection as all of God's other creations; Prayer – Instead of worrying, I pray about this situation to bring about real solutions" are all quite typical of the guidance these cards extend.

The cards measure 127 x 88 mm making them a little broader than many standard tarot decks, and a little smaller than many oracle decks. The card stock, as with all Doreen Virtue decks is excellent – thin without being flimsy, flexible, and finished with a smooth, glossy sheen. The cards sit nicely in the hands and shuffle easily. The edges of the cards are gilt with gleaming gold, which is top quality – it does not tarnish or rub off on the hands when the deck is used. However, as with all gilt-edged decks the cards may arrive stuck together and need to be separated. This can be done easily by flexing the deck end to end and side to side.

The print quality is superb – clean, clear images that maintain the integrity of the artwork, without blurring or colour bleeds. The artwork itself is a collection of some of the most famous and beautiful depictions of Mary, particularly with her infant son – ranging from Mediaeval to Renaissance, through Classical to Pre-Raphaelite eras. The images all strive for natural and realistic portrayals of Mary, so the many artists have embraced naturalistic palettes, even as they preserve their own unique and individual styles.

Each image has a narrow yellow frame, against a background of blue at the top of the card which melts into golden yellow at the bottom of the card. The title of each card is given on a yellow banner above the illustration. Under the image, an affirmation is given in blue italics – this is a summary of the broader divinatory meaning of the card. The print on the back of the cards shows Mary carrying the child Jesus, surrounded by angels. It is not reversible, nor is it intended to be.

The cards and guidebook come packaged in a solid cardboard box, with a lift-off lid. The box is printed with images from the Mary Queen of Angels deck, as well as a small summary of the purpose of the Oracle. This is a compact set that can easily be slipped into a handbag or backpack; it is sturdy and can withstand the rigours of travel.

The guidebook is 101 pages long. It has a brief introduction to the purpose of the cards; as well as the fundamentals of how to use the cards. Several prayers to invoke the guidance of Mary are included, but there are no layouts given. Each card has its own (micro) mini – chapter, which includes a tiny black-and-white reproduction of the card illustration, an affirmation, as well as an explanation of the card’s divinatory meaning. The advice given is positive, kind, and helpful.

For people looking for an Oracle with a Christian point of view the Mary Queen of Angels Oracle was made for you. If you are attracted to images of Mary this deck is absolutely stunning. If you are looking for an Oracle that is consistently kind and wholesome in its outlook than this Oracle is perfect for you too.
