Review by Jeremy Lampkin
Where do I begin? Everybody who's ever seen those lame commercials for the Psychic Hotline remembers Miss Cleo. But who would have thought to get a copy of her deck? Probably only me. That's because it sucks. Everybody knows it- that's why they go for a dollar on ebay and still nobody buys them. Miss Cleo was the biggest thing to ever hit the world of tarot, at least as far as mass media goes, and she was a total fraud. We can all be bitter at her for that. Or better yet we can laugh at her. I for one always found her rather amusing.
As for the deck, it was standard issue 78 cards Rider-Waite clone style. The cardboard is kind of cheap but usable. The artwork is totally uninspired. The only thing that caught my eye about the art was the rather gay pose on the World card. The deck I got was also part of a set with the totally uninformative and annoyingly insulting instructional Miss Cleo's Tarot Secrets Video. It was funny to see her again for a second, but her obnoxious mannerisms grew tiresome quickly. I could only stomach about half of this video. Maybe one day I'll pop it in the VCR for a laugh, but other than that I can think of no other way for anyone to use this video, except maybe to tape over.
But that's not all! The set includes a free copy of Miss Cleo's book: Keepin' it Real (a $12.95 value). Miss Cleo was the telemarketing snake-oil saleswoman of the 1990's. This deck is really only suited for those looking for a laugh at good old Miss Cleo, or those who are nostalgic enough to see this deck as a little piece of history.
