For those of you that have had the pleasure of working with Ted Andrew’s Animal Wise Tarot, his Nature-Speak Oracle will have a familiar feel to it. Animal Wise is based on Andrew’s book Animal Speak (Llewellyn, 1996) and The Nature-Speak Oracle is based on the companion book Nature-Speak (Dragonhawk, 2004). The Oracle set is published by Andrew’s own publishing company Dragonhawk. If you use Animal Wise then this may be a great oracle deck to use with it as they share a similar energy. It also stands well alone.
The Nature-Speak Oracle is not a tarot deck as it contains 60 cards divided into four suits: Landscape Oracles, Flower Oracles, Tree Oracles and Seasons & Climate Oracles. The cards mimic the Animal Wise deck in style, featuring the same border with oval cut out for the image. At the top of each card is the Title and at the bottom a keyword phase. In the middle we find some amazing photograph. The backs of these cards are a leaf motif that is reversible. As you may have gathered from the list of suits, this is not just a Flower and Tree deck. He includes some unexpected cards like the Blue Moon and Hot Springs.
Another surprise is the quality of the decks presentation. It comes is a small box which includes a solid well made box containing the cards themselves and in the place of the traditional little white book (LWB) he has included what looks like a miniature of the original Nature-Speak Book. At farther look the book includes all the standard information from a LWB including three possible spreads and background about the deck. This companion guide is very complete, but I still found myself reaching for my well worn copy of the original Nature-Speak.
