Readers Studio Review
by Robert Moyer

The Readers Studio was presented by the Tarot School, Ruth Ann and Wald Amberstone, on May 6, 7, 8, 2005 at the Courtyard by Marriot - LaGuardia, East Elmhurst, NY.

Readers Studio 05 is a gathering of Tarot Minded people. Why would anyone, much less 65 to 70 people, want to spend two and a half days talking about Tarot Cards? Because they have no life!? Correction: This is their LIFE. This is their vocation, avocation, breath, food, stimulus, passion, and drive.

Tarot is the vehicle that allows them to escape into and out of the world that surrounds them and still be a part of that same world. Besides being a helping tool for others as the readers read. So, with those things in mind, two and a half days of sharing laughs, confusion, understanding realizations, information, expressions and thoughts; the time seems to fly. This year's Studio was wonderfully stocked with all those adjectives mentioned above because of the spectrum of knowledge shown to us by the various might be a better choice speakers.

Ruth Ann and Wald can take pride in knowing the event was well organized. It is said that if you can’t top what you did in previous years be consistent. Ruth Ann and Wald have certainly maintained a consistency that has been established primarily by them. One of the main reasons I enjoy this sort of workshop is the varied expertise I find here. The added fact that there is always the sharing of thoughts and feelings and questions creates a very close learning situation.

What is amazing with the Readers Studio is the varied expertise that the Studio attracts. The spotlight was on such Tarot luminaries as James Ricklef; to Corrine Kenne and Teresa Michelsen who were featured speakers and teachers of the event. The spot light certainly shown on such "respected guests" as Rachel Pollack, Mary K. Greer, Nina Lee Braden, Johanna Gargiulo-Sherman, and Mark McElroy. To cap the Readers Studio off there was Llewellyn’s own Barbara Moore; who shared with us new publications and insights into the Tarot Publishing world.

To critique the speakers would be unjust, as I know we all received valuable information and insight from each and every one of them. Another fantastic opportunity offered by this Studio was the chance to actually have a reading with one of these Masters. My two readings were just what I needed and pointed me in the right direction. Thank you. No Readers Studio would be complete with out an open forum. As far as I'm aware, The Readers Studio has been the only event of its kind to include an open forum. This years Studio was no exception, creating the alchemy of all four of the elements into a rather provoking and evoking atmosphere.

The best way it was put to me was by a fellow Tarot enthusiast and student, Anita Merrickt; 'The Readers Studio is EMPOWERING.' Thank you Anita, Scheherazade and Cindy for being my ears and scribes. And thank you Ruth Ann and Wald for the empowering event.
