Description

A contemporary woman sits on a chair in her modern kitchen, holding a Pentacle in the form of a pie she has baked herself from apples she has grown. Through the window behind her you see an apple tree in front of a shed in her yard. Beyond that are two mountain peaks. Her pet rabbit scampers at her feet.

Symbolism

The image of the queen was updated to modernize her (by western standards) and make the figure more accessible. Here we have a woman who is queen of her home. Through her creativity and work she has transformed the raw materials of the earth into a pie which she holds with pride. The colors of her clothing and the aspect of the figure herself are similar to the Queen of Pentacles of the Universal Rider Waite. The colors of the kitchen and outdoors are warm and earthy.

A rabbit in the kitchen may seem odd to some but it really isn't. Please see http://www.rabbit.org/ for information on keeping rabbits as pets. This rabbit is dedicated to Mona: a little Himalayan bunny rescued from the streets who died a year ago of lung cancer at 8 yrs. old.

Card Meaning

The Queen of Pentacles is warm, nurturing and earthy. She represents the female aspect of dominion over the material: creatively transforming whatever is handy into other useful items through cooking, agriculture, craft or other. She takes only what she needs and leaves the rest. She is comfortable with herself and with others. She can represent these qualities in a woman or a man.

Artistic Media

This Queen of Pentacles was created using Prismacolor Color Pencils on Strathmore Premium Recycled Sketch Paper then scanned into the computer where it was cropped to the appropriate size and the title added.
