The Artist's Concept

When I see this card in other decks the general thing that springs to my mind is the miser, someone compelled by selfishness or stinginess. Decks that are more feminine-oriented have this card meaning wealth and security.

The card I have created calls to mind the Native American medicine wheel, which is a circle divided into quarters, each section carrying it's particular energy, symbolism, and color. *The energies then meet in the center and spiral back out. The rays symbolize the light that comes from sharing our knowledge and energy to strengthen each other and ourselves. This deviates from other decks by saying that instead of hoarding what we know and have, we bring it all together and enhance the power available.

Card Meaning

My card says that you have the Power of the Earth behind you. You have the strength of the four directions to guide you. Reach out and dig down to unite giving with receiving. There is no true separation. By working together we create synergy that is our strength and wealth magnified.

Reversed: Standing alone and refusing the help that is available. Not wanting to work or share with others. Being selfish. [Editor’s note: New River does not read reversals.]

Card Media

Ink, watercolors and Prismacolor® pencils on 140# watercolor paper. Finished size 5 inches x 7 inches.

*North/black/water - represents the void from which all creation springs. It vibrates with the energy of all colors and represents all possibilities. East/green/earth - the energy of growth and the spring of new beginnings vibrates with the rising sun, the dawn. South/red/fire - the energy of creativity brings resources together and doing the work, also the rewards that the work brings. West/yellow/air - the energy of relationships, the bringing of new ideas that we will work on in the next cycle. The sunset of reflecting on what we have accomplished. [Editor’s note: these elemental and color placements are not representative of any particular ‘path’.]
