Description

The King of Coins is to me someone who tends to be depicted outside more than within - and so could not pass this photo when I saw it - a photo having divergent possibility as to who it may represent, and having sufficient similarity to the artist as to allow for confused ambiguity.

The coin - of the Empress Matilda - gives the character a little more tradition. And I certainly would like to myself be able to not only hold, but cherish, such sized genuine gold coin...

Symbolism

Of the four suits, Coins remains the most useless on its own: it cannot be used for planting and eating, for fighting, nor for drinking... yet by consensual agreement may be used for each of these, and more - in a real sense depicting the world of Assiah - of manifestation.

As King, he is in charge of his domain, yet is at the utter mercy of others to agree with whatever artificial value the coinage is to have.

Card Meaning

In reading with Courts, I at times make use of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (also referred to by its common acronym, MBTI). The King of Coins is, for me, the Extroverted Sensing Judge (ESTJ). In more detailed terms, it refers either to someone who tends to be, or needs to use, any of the individual letter qualities as they become tinted with the specific others in the set.

As Extrovert, to go outwards and, as Judging, to decide - rather than make gather further details - what is to be done in the situation at hand, being mindful and care-fully thinking what the situation is and what 'facts' are actually present (Sensing).

Artistic Media

A scanned photograph and an electronic image of the coin were combined using both Appleworks and Photoshop. The coin was browned and yellowed to give it the appearance of gold.
