9 - Flowers

by le pendu

Astrological Symbol Significance

The astrological symbol for Aquarius, apparently the astrological association for this card.

Playing Card Symbol Interpretation

Queen of Spades.

A "Q" for "Queen".

Artists Personal Symbol

The "flower" symbol used throughout the card.

Card Description

The Lenormand system is new to me, but I was immediately drawn to the Flowers card. I'm a gardener, and love flowers, and the subject seemed to have so many possibilities. I knew I wanted something bold and colorful. When doing research on the card, I discovered the Lenormand decks that show the corresponding image from a traditional card deck, (in this case the Queen of Spades), and thought it would be fun to try to find a way to graphically mix the Queen of Spades and the Flowers theme.

The Queen of Spades portion is based on an old English design. I altered many aspects of the design to incorporate an abundance of flowers and spades.

Color is obviously the╩prominent design element. I chose the colors for the flowers first, then brought them into the design of the Queen. I love many of the color combinations.. the greens and pinks, the╩fuchsias, the teals. It was incredibly challenging to get everything to harmonize, (which I hope I was able to succeed in doing!). Because of the use of color, and the flower theme, the card has a retro feeling to it, but I think it is also very modern.

Overall, I hope it conveys a sense of excitement, happiness, and joy.

Card Interpretation

Happiness arriving; release of sadness, worries, and cares; a suitable partner; an invitation; social engagements; anniversaries.

My personal sense it that the card should convey a feeling similar to receiving a bouquet of flowers.

Artistic Media

The card was created in Adobe Illustrator. An English style Queen of Spades was used as reference and completely redrawn and updated.
