Wisdom of the Oracle Review by medusawink

The Wisdom of The Oracle cards is a stunningly beautiful deck from Colette Baron-Reid and artist Jena DellaGrottaglia. The Wisdom of The Oracle has incorporated elements from the tarot – especially the Minor Arcana, the I-Ching, and Scandinavian Runes and fused it with delightfully whimsical and surreal images. Here you will find mythical beings, animal guides, potent archetypes and symbols in dreamy settings – crowned owls, a pelican adrift on a bottle containing an old-fashioned telephone, cosmic eggs, fairies, clocks, watches, drifting roads to mystery destinations, and peering out from every card – sometimes hidden, sometimes front and centre – is the benign and benevolent face of The Oracle.

This Oracle is intended to help the Seeker connected with higher spiritual sources and receive guidance regarding the direction of their life path.

This is a 52 card deck. The cards measure 90 x 122mm which makes them a little broader than standard tarot decks but about average for an Oracle deck. The card stock is very good – it is sturdy, light and flexible but not flimsy. It has a smooth, high-gloss finish which facilitates easy shuffling. The cards have gilded edges of such a superior quality that the cards do not arrive stuck together, nor does the gilding tarnish with use or wear off with handling.

The print quality is excellent – each image has clear, crisp edges, the delicacy of the colours and the fine details are all produced without blurring, misprints, or colour bleeds. The artist's palette is beautiful, dreamy, restful colours – clear aqua, delicate mauve, smoky grey, brilliant sky-blue, sandy peach and apricot, gold, and lilac predominate.

There is a narrow white border around each image. Each card number is contained inside a swirl, its placement varies. The title of each card is printed in black on a white pennant at the bottom of the image. The artwork is rather surreal digitally enhanced constructs – combinations of photos and original artwork. There are no malevolent, sinister, or threatening compositions; the juxtaposition of natural and bizarre preserves an atmosphere reminiscent of dreams.

The image on the back of the cards – 2 nautilus with the Oracle’s face worked into the shell’s spiral, face each other, on a red background – is fully reversible. The cards come packaged in a solid cardboard box with a liftoff lid. The print on the box is deep red with an image from one of the Oracle cards on the front, and information about the deck on the back cover.

The 204 page guidebook is written by Colette Baron-Reid. There is a short Introduction which explains the origins and concept behind the deck. This is followed by some in-depth information about how the Oracle works. This includes instructions on How to Work with This Deck, Preparation for a Reading, 1-card Reading, 2-Card Reading, 3-Card Reading, Clarity Cards, and an explanation of the Multiple Card Meanings.

Each card is given 5 meanings:

The Essential Meaning – core concepts.
The Oracle's Message – an answer to a question and always included in a reading.
Relationship Message – for readings about a relationship, this section specifically focuses on the Seekers question.
Prosperity Message – If the Seeker’s question is a bout finance, business, career, or creativity then this section has the specific divinatory meanings.
Protection Message – this section pertains to the divinatory meaning of Reversed cards. This deck is intended to include reversed cards in readings.

The Wisdom of the oracle deck is beautiful to look at and quite substantial to use. It is suitable for both novice and advanced card readers. It's divinatory meanings are insightful and unfailingly positive, encouraging users to look for constructive solutions and providing timely advice. A pleasure to work with.
