Oracle Deck - 50 Cards - Watkins 2016
It seems that humans have always been enthralled by the mysterious beauty of crystals and semi-precious stones. Beginning with the premise that crystals possess qualities that aid with healing and amplify divinatory powers the Crystal Wisdom Healing Oracle by Judy Hall seeks to harness their potent properties. From familiar crystals such as rose quartz, amethyst, and citrine to more obscure semiprecious stones such as moldavite, aragonite, and menalite this deck of cards uses the properties of these stones for both healing and fortune-telling. Author Judy Hall is something of a crystal expert – her series of books marketed under the titles of Crystal Bibles are bestsellers, and must haves for crystal aficionados.
This is a deck of 50 cards, divided into suits of sorts; Earthy, Healing, Cosmic, Integration, and Interactive. These suits indicate the vibration level of the crystals and stones they depict. Vibrations, for those not in the know, are the power frequencies that each type of crystal vibrates at. Yes - everything is made up of energy vibrating at different levels. Different vibrational levels have different applications. Earthy crystals affect the material level, physical body, and physical environment. Healing crystals affect the mind and soul's needs, and impact on the individual's state of well-being. Integration crystals help the Seeker to access and bridge different dimensions of being and learning. Cosmic crystals work on your soul and your intuition. Interactive crystals are used in healing and rebalancing.
When using the cards the Seeker can focus on a particular vibration (suit), or use two or more suits in a reading. The cards have been designed to have three possible interpretations – self understanding, divination, and healing insight.
The cards measure 77 x 115 mm – this makes them very similar in size to an average tarot deck. There are 50 cards in this deck. The cards are made from good quality card stock – the face has a slightly toothy and low gloss finish, while the back is smooth and glossy. The edges have a silver-gilt finish. The cards are flexible, easy to handle and shuffle. The card suits are indicated by different coloured frames around the main photo – purple, aqua, pink, grey, and green. The back of the cards is a uniform, featureless pale grey.
The card images feature photographs of the crystals and stones situated on a black background, which highlights their extraordinary colours, and beauty of the crystals. Many of the stones are not featured in their natural state, but have been cut and/or polished.
The cards and guidebook come in a box set; they are presented in a drawer that slides out of the solid cardboard cover. The box and guidebook have a matte black finish with gleaming silver edges, and both feature photos of crystals, and information about the oracle cards.
The 119 page guidebook is written by Judy Hall. The introduction covers Crystal Wisdom in the past, present, and future. Here the reader will find useful explanations and definitions of ideas and terminology. Chapter 1 covers the use of the cards in healing rituals – the laying of cards on and around the body. It details "crystal healing affinities", as well as their use in balancing chakras. It is worth noting that the cards creator makes the questionable claim that photos of the crystals and stones can replace *actual* crystals in a healing ritual or process. Which begs the question - when has a photo of an object actually been as good as having the real thing?
Chapter 2 is all about using the cards as an Oracle, and covers topics such as card care, phrasing questions, and interpreting their answers. It includes five layouts which are all quite complex, and designed to give in-depth and detailed answers. Chapter 3 is divided into five sub-chapters – the card suits. Here the reader will find divinatory meanings explained in detail, as well as a short list of correspondences for each stone.
This is a beautiful deck with vibrant photos of lovely semi-precious stones and crystals. If you use crystals or have an interest in them then you will find this deck fascinating. The flexibility of these cards and their potential applications is quite broad. Even as a divination deck the Crystal Wisdom Healing Oracle is original and insightful. If you have ever wondered about the healing properties of crystals or how they can be used in divination and fortune-telling then this deck contains many answers.
